The Fort

I built a fort in my room.

A fort is a great thing to have. It is a nice place where you can go to be alone, or do something creative, or read, or to hang out with a friend. A fort is your special place where you can be yourself and feel safe. You can decorate your fort however you want to and you can build it out of almost anything! Some people think that building a fort is just for kids, but these people are wrong. I love knowing that when I finish with all the busy work the day brings I can kick back in my fort and read a good book. Your fort is a place that you don't work in or do things that make you uptight or stressed.

My fort isn't all that impressive. I've built better ones. But it has been a while...

If this post made you think I'm crazy then that kind of sucks... but if it made you smile then I would like to encourage you to go build your own fort. Get creative with it and have fun! The possibilities are endless! I'm already making plans to build a garden fort this summer.

My Neighborhood

The neighborhood I live in is strange... it feels familiar to me while I feel like a stranger to it.

I love to take walks. I've been photographing the neighborhood on my walks... here is the best of what I got...

Last week

These pictures are from last week...

I had a lot to do this day and I didn't really have time to photograph... but then I noticed the heavy fog outside. I've been waiting for a day like this one... overcast with a thick fog hanging low. Ahh it was perfect. I managed to run outside and snap these before I had to go to work.

Last week

I had Seamus come out and shoot with me! It's so much fun when you realize your boyfriend is cooler than you thought he was.

These pictures are all sketches for this idea I have. I want to move into landscape photography, but like, put people in the landscape. Occupied landscapes. I want to contrast the difference in scale of the people to the environment in the frame. To play with this idea I needed a model. The natural first subject is oneself or ones mate... or both.

Seamus and I had fun using the camera timer. We tried to run to a specific spot within 10 seconds. We didn't make it the first time but the resulting image is wonderful.

Then we ran to a closer spot.

The image above is strange. I feel like my body looks weird where it is because the bottom half is cut off, but I still like this picture for some reason.

I like this one of Seamus playing with his shadow. His shadow stretching away with the trees shadows is kind of nice.

These pictures were all taken in Pomfret, CT.

NEMO

...a post every day. I just can't do it. But I can promise to post every week with a bunch of pictures.

I have been suffering from financial woes (who hasn't been?) but as soon as I get some extra cash I'm buying a bunch 'o film! My goal is to ONLY shoot film. Then I really will only be able to post a couple times a week. I don't own a scanner so I'm at the mercy of my old schools photo lab or a friend who wants to help me out.... or CDs...

Anyway, at the beginning of winter I decided to do a snow series. This is my fourth winter up in CT but snow is still fascinating to me... it's like this weird stuff that falls from the sky and physically gets in our way. It can be fun and be dangerous all in the same day. It covers things up and makes them unrecognizable. It takes up lanes and gets dirty and icy. It is also one of the most beautiful phenomena I have experienced.
So far this winter the snow has been kind powdery and we haven't gotten any significant accumulation. So Hurricane Nemo was a huge blessing for me.
The following pictures were all taken in my neighborhood in Danielson, CT.

I really like this one above. This picture made me realize that the snow creates this cool negative space. Everything looks like it is just there floating.

The last one is just a sketch from when we were shoveling out our cars. I like the idea of light shining through the snow. It looked really cool in person.
